Bushes

We’ve been working on a lot of things around the yard this year.

This week, we got a bunch of bushes that will one day be a hedge “fence” separating the front/back yard on the hillside. (If you heard someone complaining that ‘some lady’ bought all the bushes at Costco — that was me. Sorry!)

This hillside used to be covered with weeds, and had an irrigation ditch running the length of it. We filled in the ditch with a Christmas tree, among other things. Oh, and dirt. (I think I am going to have to dig through old photos. . .) We installed sprinklers and laid sod. It was quite the project, but it has been a very nice addition to our yard.

Even Miss M came out to help. And Little D did his work, too, if you consider distraction as part of his job description.

Even Blue and Kota did their jobs supervising and sleeping on the job.

Little D tried to steal Miss M’s ring pop.

Believe it or not, I actually did plant a few of the bushes. I just wasn’t able to take pictures of myself for proof.

R did a great job. It was fun watching him do most the work.

He even smiles a bit when he works!

Mercedes smiled every time the camera made an appearance — her best job.

But she also helped smooth out the soil — with a smile, of course.

Little D supervised. He also multi-tasked by making his toys walk the plank. It was pretty serious work.

And finally! A real smile! (Because he just planted the last bush.)

Pinafore Fashion Statement

On Sunday, Miss M decided she was going to help us out by getting dressed on her own. She came prancing into the kitchen so proud of herself in her pinafore dress Gramma Patty made for her. . .

What do you think? Are alternately worn pinafores making a come-back?

All I Want for Christmas. . .

. . . is my two front teeth!

That song has been running through my head since last week, when. . .

you guessed it! Miss M lost her other top tooth. It was very loose so we went to have Nurse Gramma Patty take a look at it. Miss M said Gramma wanted to help clean her loose tooth, and accidently pulled too much, and it came right out.

5 Month Comparison

I thought it was time for another comparison between Miss M & Little D at 5 months old. This time I was able to find similar shots for an easier comparison.

Blessed

Sunday ~ May 1st

We finally decided to bless Little D before he was able to sit on his own, or before he was too heavy to hold. I was worried he might already be too heavy.

R gave him a beautiful blessing. His grandpa and two brothers stood in the circle with my dad and our bishop. It was a nice, quiet little group which turned out perfectly.

I guess laying there was a tiring job. Either that or Grandpa has the magic touch.

Little D has been such a blessing in our lives; I can’t imagine our family without him. He is such a sweet little guy.

Projects

This week, we were able to have Miss M’s “most favorite and best friend in the whole wide world” (Miss A) over for a play date. I love watching these two girls together. While I was preparing to mop the kitchen floor, they decided they wanted to work on projects. As I was pulling out the broom, they were pulling out project supplies. When I turned around, they were setting up their project station right in the middle of the kitchen floor.

“We need a really, really large area that has a hard floor so we can do all our projects, mom. My table isn’t big enough and my carpet is too soft.”

I guess that calls for a change of plans on my part.

Halfway through, we had to scoot everything off to the side so we could make pancakes for lunch. As soon as lunch was finished, they went right back to work.

I have never seen so many craft projects going on at once.

Besides school, a break for lunch, a walk, and dinner — Miss M spent the entire day crafting. I think she totaled 7+ hours of crafts.

I love how these girls enjoy each others’ company. They never want the play date to end. Next week, Miss A is spending the day again and we have lots of things in store. I think more projects might be in the works after feeding horses, making pancakes, and planting a pot of flowers.

I Hope You Dance

Miss M loves her Ballet class.

She also loves her costume. What could be more perfect than pink, purple, blue, flowers, crushed velvet and fabric that flows behind her as she leaps and dances.

Her only complaint: She doesn’t like the way she looks with a bun in her hair. (That’s why I had to take it out before she would let me take the above photo.)

Lately, Miss M has been into choosing her own poses. I guess it comes with learning ballet positions and using her own creativity.

I can hardly wait to see her dance performance in a couple weeks.
